Community morning helping at Nursery
Event Date: Tuesday 11 October 2016, 9:30am to 12:00pm
Once a month for three consecutive days (Tue, Wed, Thu), starting on the second Tuesday in the month, we hold a community working bee at the Landcare plant nursery. Adam, our volunteer nursery manager, is at the nursery in Matakawau from 9.30 to midday on those days, working to produce the thousands of eco-sourced native plants we are growing to benefit the environmental health of our Peninsula. There is always lots to do, especially at this time of the year (summer), potting up seedlings into larger containers, and dealing to the ever-present weeds in older plants. We have some wonderful, regular helpers but always welcome newcomers. Adam will guide you in what to do. We’re a friendly lot, so don’t be shy, pop into the nursery and meet us - we chat and have a laugh while we work, and enjoy a cuppa together afterwards. If you’re new to the area, it’s a great way of getting to know the community. If the OPEN sign is out on the roadside, we’ll be in the nursery. Even if you can spare just an hour, that’s a great help. There is a sense of achievement in being able to nurture plants and watch them grow (don’t they say there’s nothing like getting your hands dirty to refresh the soul?) It’s important to wear covered shoes and bring some gloves if you have them (we have spare pairs if you don’t). Maybe see you there one day!
