Welcome to the Awhitu Peninsula Landcare Inc. website. The core functions/objectives of APL are as follows:
  • To help people on the Awhitu Peninsula work together in planning sustainable management of the land and other resources in the area
  • To help in the planning of co-operative land and resource-based projects
  • To invite resource people to assist with activities, to commission research, and to share information
  • To seek funding to support these aims for the benefit of all those who live or work on the Awhitu Peninsula.

SHADE HOUSE WORKING BEE
When: Wednesday 13th August
Where: APL unit, Hamilton Road, Awhitu Central
Details: We will be there wet or fine. Everyone, young or old, welcome. All enquiries to Landcare

AUGUST MEETING
When: Sunday 17th August - 2-4pm
Where: David and Antonia Craig's property, Barthow Road, Pollok
Details: Field trip to view recent QEII covenanted bush

PLANTING DAY

When: Monday 15th September - 7.30pm
Where: Pollok Hall (to be confirmed)
Details: David Craig will speak on "Farming and Environmental Issues in the UK"

All courses are run on a demand basis, times, dates and locations will be confirmed when numbers are sufficient.

BASIC COMPUTER COURSE
Details: Tutor - Grant MacKenzie. $15pp per day. 2 hour sessions.
Day 1: Playing with various media - camera, music, video.
Day 2: Getting more from the internet

TRACTOR DRIVING
Details: Free course run over two days, two weeks apart.

CHAINSAW SAFETY AND USAGE
Details: Free course run over two days, two weeks apart.

ANIMAL HANDLING
Details: Free course run over two days, two weeks apart.

ATV/QUAD BIKE COURSE
Details: Free course run over two days, two weeks apart.

A comprehensive guide to the biodiversity and landscape of the Awhitu Peninsula is now available to new and existing residents of Awhitu from the Awhitu Landcare office. Compiled by APL members with assistance from the Department of Conservation and the Auckland Regional Council.

The APL office at Matakawau has several business services available, including photocopying, laminating, printing, typing, reports, CV creation, projector hire, etc.
