Awhitu Peninsula Landcare AGM with guest speaker Ed Chignell
Saturday 15th June, 3:30pm, Pollock Hall
In a break from tradition, Awhitu Peninsula Landcare are holding their 2019 AGM on a Saturday afternoon in order to give as many peninsula-dwellers the opportunity to attend as possible.
Awhitu Peninsula Landcare is utterly committed to the peninsula, but we need to grow the volunteer base in order to build on the fantastic results already achieved in pest control and re-vegetation projects using native seedlings, which we grow from locally eco-sourced seed to provide native plants that will thrive in our area.
It is great news that the Government and Auckland Council commitment to Predator Free NZ is feeding a groundswell of concern about environmental issues, and Awhitu PeninsulaLandcare can provide a vehicle to convert concern into action by helping to create an environment where native flora and fauna can flourish. Apart from volunteering for such tasks as potting up of native seedlings and assisting these plants to grow to their best, we need passionate people to help the committee to administer the available funds we access to for pest control and running our native plant nursery.
But there are still more opportunities to get involved, from working to make your own backyard
predator-free to getting together with neighbours and perhaps targeting a road or some bush area
to rid of pests so that the native plants can thrive, and beyond. The possibilities are many and varied, and Awhitu Peninsula Landcare can help in your vision for your area by providing pest control advice, trapping/baiting supplies, and seedlings grown to order from locally-sourced seed.
There have been some great results lately with pest control on the peninsula, and to celebrate this and inspire further victories we are fortunate to have engaged an excellent speaker, Predator Free
2050 Ltd's Chief Executive Ed Chignell, to address us at the Awhitu Peninsula Landcare AGM on Saturday June 15th at the Pollock hall. Mr Chignell is the founder of Treescape New Zealand and spent 37 years as co-CEO for the company, which specialises in tree, vegetation and environmental
management. This experience and knowledge, along with his vision and passion for a predator-free
New Zealand, should make for an inspiring and informative address.
All are most welcome to attend both the address and the AGM and we would love to have you
involved - in any capacity. Refreshments will be served after the AGM, so please feel free to stay around for a chat with the team about how you may help build a predator-free Awhitu Peninsula.
