Help Where It’s Needed

We have an initiative to assist Awhitu landowners with refill supplies of Vigilant gel, very effective in dealing to the dreaded woolly nightshade (Solanum mauritianum) and many other invasive weeds.

We give advice to landowners on all the most common Peninsula weeds.

We provide input into Auckland’s weed strategy planning, trying to elevate Council control over those creating the most damage on our Peninsula. Due to our mild climate, Auckland has the unenviable reputation of being the weediest city in the world.

We are always attempting to test new methods of bio-control

Bio control methods already introduced and surviving well on the Awhitu Peninsula include the gorse spider mite, a lacebug for woolly nightshade and a flea for ragwort. Unfortunately bio-control can take decades before having a noticeable effect, but they are the solution we would most like to succeed.
