Wettest planting ever?

Planting at Awhitu Central Community Hall August 2014We had a truckload of plants loaded for the Awhitu Central community hall. Planting day arrived. The forecast was not wrong. It rained and it rained and …. actually it never stopped. Nearly 30mm! Not so many of us turned up and braved the conditions but - get that truckload of plants into the ground we did.

David Craig, Awhitu Landcare stalwart for 20 years (legend!) arrived just as the last few plants were going into the ground, to check out our work. David stepped down from the Landcare committee at our AGM in June but we rather feel he is still going to be keeping an eye on us…

We were also watched over by a pair of kereru keeping dry in their tree shelter, I swear they were laughing at us.

Leonie's famous scones disappearing fast...And Leonie bless her soul kept spirits up with her famous cream and jam scones. Which didn’t last long. Surely better weather for the next planting at Awhitu Central tomorrow?
