Wonderful Wetlands - were destined to be Carpark!

Wetlands at Awhitu Regional ParkTalking to an Awhitu landowner who is using our nursery’s eco-sourced plants in an ambitious wetland project (article coming soon) got us thinking about our fabulous wetland at the Awhitu Regional Park.  Do we celebrate this wonderful resource enough?  We don’t think so.  Awhitu may not be the biggest Regional Park in Auckland but what a gem it is.

Pohutukawa laden with buds Kauritutahi BeachBe sure to get down there in December because we have never seen so many buds about to burst forth on the beachfront pohutukawas.  And the gentle palette of colours and textures throughout the wetlands is simply stunning.  To think that area was destined to be a carpark!!!

We owe a debt of gratitude to those who fought against this. Now, more than ever, our environment needs people to stand up and fight for long term sustainability, not fall for the lure of the short term $$$$$$’s.
