Are You Up for It?
We will be taking a long meandering route down past Kakaroa Pa and its significant archaeological features, out to the coast and returning by a different route –walking for two to three hours. The huge west coast views will present many photo opportunities, and we hope to include the histories of the families involved in the farming of this area over the last century and a half.
The walk is over some steep land and will require a reasonable level of fitness – it’s a lovely stroll on the way down to the Tasman Sea but the prospect of the climb back up can be a little daunting at first! You will need good footwear and water. Dogs are permitted, but they must be kept on a leash at all times. So, rain or shine we will be starting out at 2pm on Sunday 27 March – parking at the end of J. Irwin Road. A gold coin contribution towards our Landcare projects on the Peninsula would be much appreciated. As always, many thanks to the private landowners who allow us access to their properties. (Please note – nearest toilets are at Manukau Heads Lighthouse).
